Hi, I’m Cath Dawes

I graduated from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London and am a fully qualified and insured Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I am a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine, which upholds the highest professional standards for Nutritional Therapy. I keep on top of the latest research and clinical developments through a programme of continuing professional education.

I am a STOTT Pilates Certified Instructor. The STOTT Method focuses on restoring the natural curvature of the spine and rebalancing the muscles surrounding the joints. It focuses on breathing, fluidity of movement and concentration and aims to develop longer, leaner muscles and improved posture. My mat work teaching, through the use of props and sequential exercises focuses on core stability, muscular strength and flexibility.

This is my second career after many years working in advertising, raising a family and living as an expat in several countries. Growing up in a household with parents who were a medical doctor and dietitian, I have always been attuned to the powerful connection between good food and health, but my own diagnosis of an autoimmune condition gave me first hand experience of the profound impact that diet and lifestyle choices have on our health and well being. I feel passionate about sharing my knowledge with others.

What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is an evidence-based field of healthcare that uses diet and lifestyle changes to support an individual’s health and wellbeing. It is based on Functional Medicine, which considers the human body as an integrated whole, with interlinking systems, so an imbalance in one may contribute to a health problem in another.

Rather than simply focus on addressing the symptoms, Nutritional Therapy addresses underlying causes of a condition. It typically involves taking a full health history, mapping symptoms and the potential connections between them and digging deeper into nutritional and physiological factors that may be contributing to illness or risk factors for future chronic conditions. Using a broad range of tools, we’ll work together to develop an individualised nutrition and lifestyle plan.

Nutritional Therapy doesn’t replace medical advice, it complements it. It is not only relevant for those with existing health conditions but also for anyone looking to enhance their current health and wellbeing.
